On May 1st, 1990, Madonna's second talk show appearance, after Johnny Carson in '87, was once again a television event (not counting '88 Letterman with Sandra). Promoting  Dick Tracy  and her  Blond Ambition Tour,  Madonna came out swinging and looked like a silent film star in color. Her delicate features were painted like a china doll. Everyone waited in line at the Paramount Studios - on the Gower side - since 4 am that morning. Getting there early was of the utmost importance to insure being in front. As the line grew and grew - hundreds were turned away. These were pre-internet days and you would be with your friends and make new ones in line and there was none of that nastiness you see now. It was all about love. Still is, in my group. About 3 pm, they let everyone in and the energy was amazing. Madonna always ignites enormous excitement.
