Finger wave: Beyonce has a familiar style to her in the video clip for Haunted that was released on Thursday
Flashback: The severe style was similar to Madonna in Erotica
With blood red lips and dark eyes, Jay Z's wife struts along with a powerful expression similar to that of Madonna's raunchy alter-ego, Mistress Dita.
The theme of Haunted, however, is more similar to another video creation by the 55-year-old pop icon, Justify My Love.
Just like Madonna in that 1990 hit, Beyonce prowls through different rooms of a mysterious mansion as strange characters fall at her feet.
Sculptured: The tight curls and blonde cropped hair are similar to Madonna in her Erotica video
Forceful: Beyonce struts down a corridor wearing a man's tuxedo suit with a tie around her neck
Remake: Moving from room to room, the clip was similar to Madonna's Justify My Love video
Along the way, she meets men wearing vest tops and their faces painted stark white with black eyes staring eerily at her as she passes down a corridor. Later she meets strangers in head-to-toe leather and masks, before being surrounded by a troop of lace-clad dancers.
One strange shot shows a man in a colourful robe and leopard print Speedos surrounded by bubbles in a bathtub.
Another room contains a family of four mannequins in a 1960s style kitchen, preparing for a very plastic-looking meal.
Later an almost-naked African-American dances provocatively paints herself with a large brush while Beyonce appears in black and white in a TV screen between her legs.
'My wicked tongue... I'm on to you, I'm on to you, you must be on to me,' sings Blue Ivy's mother to a heavy techno beat.
While the artistic mini-movie to Beyonce's haunting track is clearly inspired by Madonna, it was the Queen of Pop who was mimicking her earlier this year when she was spotted dancing to Crazy In Love at the after party for her world premiere of Madonna: The MDNA Tour movie in New York City in June.
Strange sights: The singer met some odd characters along the way, including white-faced gangsters
Bubbles: In one scene, a dancer poses in a bathtub
Double vision: The pop icon transferred from the flesh to a TV screen
Beyonce released her latest studio effort on iTunes with no promotion or prior warning to her fans, along with a series of compelling clips from her Self-Titled video series.
In an accompanying statement, the 32-year-old entertainer spoke about her decision to create a what she is calling a 'visual album'.
'I see music. It’s more than just what I hear.' she revealed.
Elegant back shot: The singer strutted down the long green-carpeted hallway
Lacy ladies: Jay Z's wife laid back on a couch as dancers surrounded her
Plastic performers: In one room, she even finds a family of mannequins
'When I’m connected to something, I immediately see a visual or a series of images that are tied to a feeling or an emotion, a memory from my childhood, thoughts about life, my dreams or my fantasies. And they’re all connected to the music.'
Interestingly, previously leaked tracks Grown Woman and Standing in the Sun did not make the final cut of the album.
