Mexico City.- The legends of music Madonna and Bruce Springsteen are ranked first and second in the ranking of the most listened to records in the United States.
Madame X, Madonna, reached the top of Billboard 200. It is the ninth album in the first place on the list of the most listened to the iconic 60-year-old singer.
Springsteen's Western Stars is in second place. It is the first time since 1985 that the Queen of Pop and The Boss (The Boss), 69, reign together in the ranking of the most listened to albums.
During two weeks in January and February of 1985, Born in the USA, by Springsteen, and Madonna's Like a Virgin, presided the ranking in first and second place respectively. In the two weeks that followed, Madonna's album went to first place and Springsteen's album fell to second.
In those days, the two superstars along with Prince and Michael Jackson entered the new world of MTV, the cable channel of music videos that gave the discs a greater power of duration.
Despite receiving bad reviews, Madonna's latest effort - a cocktail of Latin rhythms, acoustic ballads and intimate re-flexing of marginalized communities - rose to the top of the rankings in part because of her "package" strategy.
This method of sales makes waves in the industry (with adherents such as Taylor Swift and Katy Perry) by scheduling the release of records along with tickets for concerts or purchases of merchandise linked to the artist.
The initial success of the two titans of music is predicted to be short-lived: observers from the music industry predict that country rapper Lil Nas X will overtake them next week.
Lil Nas X, who rose to fame thanks to her hit single Old Town Road, has just released her first album, 7, which includes her megahit and a Billy Rae Cyrus remix along with a song by star rapper Cardi B.
