Madonna Opened For The Smiths

                 






























It was New Year’s Eve 1983 and The Smiths touched down in New York City for
their first ever US performance, they were playing a well-known
nightclub called the Danceteria.

The Smiths were scheduled to go on around
1AM, also on the bill that night was MC Lovebug Starski, hip-hop
pioneers Whodini and a then unknown singer/dancer who went by the name
of Madonna.

According to the interview below with Johnny Marr,
he says that supporting them “was the girl that work on the coat check,
it was Madonna”
