CYNDI LAUPER & MADONNA – THE TRUTH

Lauper recently dished with Yahoo Music about the evolution of “Girls” from lothario’s party song to feminist’s call-to-arms, and she also discussed Madonna, Miley Cyrus, “American Idol,” and why she never tires of singing “Girls” live. At the time that “She’s So Unusual” came out, you got a lot of comparisons to Madonna, who was coming up around the same time. How did you feel about that? “The media invented that rivalry. We really didn’t even know each other. We had a lot of friends in common, but we never really even met except for a few quick times at award shows. We both came out at the same time, we both were very into fashion, we were both very opinionated and demanded to be heard, but our music wasn’t and isn’t similar. They don’t compare men who have successful albums in the same year, do they?” You never seemed to use your sexuality to sell your music. It just wasn’t part of your image. Were you ever pressured to sex it up more, especially since it was th...

On this Day... April 12, 1991

Madonna attends the "Dance-A-Thon" event to support the AIDS Project Los Angeles benefit.  Of all the off-work appearances troughout M's career, this is definitely one of my all-time favourites. Madonna joined hundreds of people for the 3rd annual Dance-a-Thon, held by AIDS Project Los Angeles. Due to the success of both previous events (her presence at the first one was surely one of the causes), the APLA's dance marathon moved from the Shrine Auditorium to the LA Sports Arena. Huge! While 89's appearance was all about style, sunglasses and cut-off jeans, this time was for serious dancing. Dressed up in tracksuit pants and that oh-so-marvellous combination of black bra & white top, Madonna wasn't just showing herself around. She danced her ass off, up to that amazing state of grace: totally covered in sweat. That hair, dear Lord... Those were the days when house music was reaching world domination (God, how I miss them) and, once mor...

Madonna confirms new collaboration with Natalia Kills

After revealing that she was collaborating with Avicii last month, Madonna once again took to Instagram to give us a new name: Natalia Kills. On the picture we can spot Madonna, singer/songwriter Natalia Kills and also Martin Kierszenbaum, the founder and chairman of pop alternative label Cherrytree Records and senior executive of A&R at Interscope Records. Kierszenbaum co-wrote and produced four songs off Lady Gaga’s debut album “The Fame.” What do you think of this new collaboration? Working the midnight shift with Natalia Kills. 2 girls on a couch……….don”t it taste like Holy Water? #artforfreedom #rebelheart #revolutionoflove

Cooley Produced by Madonna and Shep Pettibone Sequencing, keyboards and programming by Shep Pettibone and Tony Shimkin Additional keyboards by Joe Moskowitz Album   Erotica Single This fourth Erotica single was released in March 1993, only outside the US and Canada. The dancy cover of the classic Peggy Lee song climbed the charts to #6 in the UK and #7 in Japan. In Australia it stalled at a disappointing #51. It wasn't released in the US because it was the B-single for Bad Girl . The maxi-single of that song featured several remixes of Fever. Thanks to those remixes, Fever became a #1 on the Hot Dance / Club Play chart. The Edit One remix (used in the video) only appeared as a B-single for Rain in...

Finnish fan showing his love for Madonna with his truck

1991 VOGUE ITALIA magazine

On this Day: April 06, 1984 Borderline" enters the Billboard singles chart.

" Borderline " is a song by American recording artist Madonna from her self-titled debut album . It was released on February 15, 1984 as the fifth single from the album, by Sire Records . Written and composed by producer Reggie Lucas , the song received remix treatment from Madonna's then boyfriend John "Jellybean" Benitez . She used a refined and expressive voice for the song. Its lyrics dealt with the subject of a love that is never fulfilled and was written as a rebellion against male chauvinism. Contemporary critics and authors applauded the song, calling it harmonically the most complex song from the Madonna album and complimenting the dance-pop nature of the song. "Borderline" became Madonna's first top ten hit on the Billboard Hot 100 , peaking at number ten. In the United Kingdom it reached number two after it was re-released as a single in 1986. Elsewhere, the song reached the top 10 or top 20 of a number of European nation...
