"BITCH I'M MADONNA" EXTENDS HER RECORD FOR MOST No. 1s ON A SINGLE CHART

Madonna’s back at No. 1 on the Dance Club Songs chart, as her latest single, “B**** I’m Madonna” rises 2-1 on the chart dated Aug. 15. It’s Madonna’s 46th No. 1 on this chart, and extends her own record for the most No. 1s on a singular Billboard chart. (She broke the record in May, when she surpassed George Strait’s 44 leaders on the Hot Country Songs chart.) For Minaj, “Madonna” is her fifth No. 1. She also hit the top with “Turn Me On” (David Guetta featuring Minaj), “Give Me All Your Luvin'” (Madonna featuring Minaj & M.I.A.), “Pound the Alarm” and “Beauty and a Beat” (Justin Bieber featuring Minaj). Here is an updated look at Madonna’s 46 Dance Club Songs No. 1s, beginning with the double-sided single “Holiday”/”Lucky Star,” which reached the top the week of Sept. 24, 1983. You’ll notice that one of her No. 1s is an entire album: You Can Dance (1988), a collection of mostly remixes of previously-released songs (and one new cut, “Spotlight”). Prior to Feb. 23, 1

Aug 1, 1989 // "Cherish" directed by Herb Ritts was the album "Like a Prayer's" third single to get released.

" Cherish " by  Madonna  was from her fourth studio album  Like a Prayer  (1989). It was written and produced by Madonna and  Patrick Leonard , and was released by  Sire Records  as the album's third single on August 1, 1989. "Cherish" was built around the themes of love and relationship, with  William Shakespeare 's  Romeo and Juliet  being one of the major inspirations. The track also included a line from " Cherish " by the 1960s band  The Association . Musically constructed as a doo-wop  style  pop  song, it is regarded as a light-hearted track by critics and includes instruments such as  drum machine ,  percussions ,  keyboards  and a  saxophone . Lyrically, it speaks of Madonna's devotion to her lover, and her promise to be always by his side. "Cherish" was included on Madonna's greatest hits compilations  The Immaculate Collection  (1990) and the two-disc edition of  Celebration  (2009). "Cherish" featu

THE MOMMY RETURNS – MADONNA TOUR DE FORCE : ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY (JULY 27 2001) Get into the toaster and crouch. Shut the door. Bend your knees. You’re in a square, transparent pod underneath the stage at London’s Earls Court. The point man is staring at you, waiting for a thumbs-up. If you’re holding a guitar, aim the fretboard vertically, otherwise a tuning peg might get clipped on the way up and — claaaang! — you’ll storm the stage in a hail of sour notes. Keep your arms at your sides. During rehearsals a dancer almost got a limb sliced off when a toaster hurled her into the air sooner than expected. They call it a toaster because it can pop you out like a piece of toast. Sometimes it’s cannonball-fast, but usually it hoists you slowly, into a dry-ice fogbank, as if you’re a platform-booted member of Kiss. If it looks like you’re not ready, “we abort the move,” says production manager Mark Spring. If you are ready — if thumbs-ups are exchanged — then seconds later you’re c

July 27, 1983 // 36th Anniversary of Madonna's Debut Album - How Will You Celebrate?

MADONNA - THE FIRST ALBUM Album cover, shot by Gary Heery After the successful release of her first two singles  Everybody  and  Burning Up , Warner Records gave Madonna  the permission to produce her first album. Though New  York DJ  Mark Kamins  had discovered Madonna and  produced  Everybody , Madonna decided to work  with Warner producer  Reggie Lucas  for the rest of the album.   They started recording  Lucky Star , a song written by  Madonna, and  Borderline , which was a composition of Lucas.  Soon both realised they couldn't cooperate that well.  Lucas produced the album his way, while Madonna  complained that she had different concepts and ideas.  She took the finished but unsatisfactory album to her  friend  John -Jellybean- Benitez , who remixed and  rearranged the whole album. He also added a song written  by Curtis Hudson and Lisa Stevens:  Holiday . This song would  establish Madonna as the new dance act of the  early 80s. O
