"La Isla Bonita" was released from the album "True Blue" as the final single on February 25, 1987 by Sire Records.

"La Isla Bonita" means "The Beautiful Island" in Spanish. In the song, Madonna sings about the beautiful island of San Pedro, where she longs to be. San Pedro is not a real island. In a 2009 interview with Rolling Stone, Madonna said, "I don't know where that came from. I don't know where San Pedro is. At that point, I wasn't a person who went on holidays to beautiful islands. I may have been on the way to the studio and seen an exit ramp for San Pedro." (for a similar story, check out "China Grove") This song provided yet another look and sound for Madonna, as it had a Spanish theme. In an interview with the New York Times, she called the song, "A tribute to the beauty and mystery of Latin American people."   Songwriter and producer Patrick Leonard wrote this for Michael Jackson, but Jackson claimed he didn't like the title and turned down the song. Leonard then offered it to Madonna, who rewrote some of...

February 23, 1998 "Frozen" was released as the lead single from the album Ray of Light.

" Frozen " is a song by Madonna  from her seventh studio album  Ray of Light  (1998). It was released as the  lead single  from the album on February 23, 1998, by Maverick Records. Madonna and director Chris Cunningham went to the Californian Mojave desert to film this stunning video, which was inspired by the movie 'The English Patient'/'The Sheltering Sky'. Madonna - in a black Gaultier dress and a black octopus wig - plays some kind of ice queen in the desert, who's left by her lover.  Her hands are painted with Henna tattoos (which would quickly lead to a new rage among youngsters).  The special effects are amazing; Madonna changes into a dobermann or a bunch of crows. That's why, among other awards, the video was praised for 'Best Special Effects' on the 1998 MTV VMA's. There are also remix videos; the Stereo MC Mix and the Calderone Club Mix, with different parts and shots. Lyrics You only see...

February 20th 2009 // "SIMPLY MADONNA" EXHIBITION IN LONDON.

A huge collection of Madonna memorabilia is going on display including clothing, posters and magazine covers. Appropriately called “Simply Madonna”, the exhibition includes over 300 items all connected to the Material Girl. The vast array of clothing and concert costumes worn by the queen of reinvention is likely to please her fans the most. They include outfits from the film Evita in which Madonna broke Elizabeth Taylor’s Guinness World Record for most costume changes in a film. Also on display is the Marilyn Monroe-esque pink gown worn by the singer in the pop video for Material Girl. It is expected to fetch around £100,000 when it is auctioned next month. Exhibition curator Ted Owen said: “You couldn’t ask for a collection that gives you every aspect of her life, and her fashion. Because she has been like a chameleon, just drops it, and moves on.” The “Simply Madonna” exhibition is on at The Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane until the March 22.

Arbuckle IMAGE: MICHAEL MCDONNELL/ARCHIVE PHOTOS/GETTY IMAGES Madonna Louise Ciccone was born on Aug. 16, 1958 in Bay City, Michigan. As a teenager, she was known both for her rebellious antics and for her excellent performance in school. She rejected her conservative upbringing and acted out against her stepmother after her mother’s death, while maintaining a perfectionist drive and desire to make herself known. She became a cheerleader and developed an interest in ballet and dance. After graduating high school early, she won a dance scholarship to the University of Michigan. After winning another scholarship with the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, she decided to drop out in 1978 and head straight for New York City. There, she performed in a few dance troupes and made ends meet with odd jobs, including waitressing and modeling for nude art classes. Here, the 20-year-o...
