MADONNA INTERVIEW : BOSTON GLOBE (MARCH 20 1998)

Madonna in the lotus position A slave to fame. That role, above all others, has defined Madonna, the singer-actress-video-queen who has relentlessly chased the spotlight since her first No. 1 hit, “Like a Virgin,” in 1984. And yet, after an infinite variety of poses and controversies, there’s a new Madonna in our midst – a Madonna into yoga, meditation, motherhood, and peace of mind. It’s a rite of passage shared by many of her 39-year-old peers, one many Madonna watchers thought they would never see. “I now realize that fame is not as important as I thought it was,” Madonna says from her home in New York. Fame, as she sings on her new album, “Ray of Light,” is a “substitute for love.” Fame is that “feeling of where you keep waiting to be fulfilled, but you never will if you’re looking for it in that area,” she adds during an hourlong conversation. Madonna’s new album just entered the Billboard charts at No. 2 and includes the 31st Top 10 hit of her career in “Frozen” (onl...

Mar. 20, 2015: Madonna Week On 'The Ellen Show' Day 3: "Ghosttown"

The Madgeical moments just keep coming on  The Ellen DeGeneres Show  this week. Having already  thirsted for  Justin Bieber ‘s twinky D  and  lived for love and Zimmer frames , Madonna decided to keep things simple and solemn for Day 3 with a performance of her thunderous upcoming  Rebel Heart  single, “Ghosttown.” Wrapped up tight like the  leather fun-loving Grindr mommy  she is, Madonna delivered yet another stirring performance of the post-apocalyptic tune. In fact, it was likely her best to date, from the outfit choice to the raw, emotional vocal delivery. Best of all was when she kneeled down (bless yourself and genuflect) during the bridge, only to rise up (rise up, lotus, rise!) and give us one last  woosh  of that big chorus. M-Dolla giving us Balladonna on American daytime TV is something we haven’t seen in well over a decade. We’re truly lucky to have her heavenly light in this mad, mad ...

28 Years Ago This Week: March 19, 1989, "Like A Prayer" Madonna's newly released single came in the charts at No3.

It wasn't every week that the biggest female artist on the planet released a brand new single - but 28 years ago this week, the Queen of Pop returned to the ARIA chart following an absence of more than 12 months.  Madonna fans' prayers were answered this week in 1989 She wasn't the only star who'd risen to fame earlier in the decade to debut with a new song this week in 1989, but she was far and away the most successful of the artists returning to the chart with fresh material. ARIA Top 50 Singles Chart - week ending March 19, 1989 The best thing about Madonna's high debut was that it meant that The Proclaimers' days at number 1 were numbered. Yep, "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" spent its fifth and final week atop the ARIA singles chart. Number 3  "Like A Prayer" by Madonna Peak: number 1 Between her 1984 breakthrough and the end of 1987, Madonna landed 17 hit singles on the Australian top 50 (including four number 1s). Th...

MARCH 19, 2012: Madonna by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott for MDNA [Released in Ultra HQ Pictures]

March 19 1995: "Love Don't Live Here Anymore" was released as the fourth single from the ballads collection "Something To Remember."

In 1984 Madonna made a cover of this  Rose Royce  classic. Alledgedly it was a personal favorite of hers and in 1995 she included the song - in a slightly remixed version - in  Something To Remember  and released it as a single in  March 1996 . But obviously nobody had been waiting for the release of a 12-year old cover song; in its first week it couldn't even get into the US Hot 100. Eventually it crawled up to #78, making it one of Madonna's biggest chart flops. Video Probably one of the reasons why the single flopped was the rather lame video by  Jean-Baptiste Mondino . The video (set to the Soulpower Remix) was shot in the middle of the Evita filming, so Madonna only spend two days filming it. The video is basically one long shot of Madonna in a big marble room with waving curtains, where she's yearning for love. Lyrics You abandoned me Love don't live here anymore Just a vacancy Love don't live here anymore When you l...

Madonna on ' The Jonathan Ross Show ' Recorded 26 Feb, Aired March 14 2015, [VIDEO FULL SHOW]

Madonna performed two songs at the show: a remix of  Living For Love  and  Ghosttown . She has long term plans: the upcoming  Tour  finishes in  February 2016 , she will the take the Summer off, and start directing  a new film  after. Madonna obviously spoke a lot about last night’s performance at the  Brit Awards . She  hasn’t  and  won’t watch it The reason behind the accident was a last minute change to the Brits performance: she was made to walk longer on the  catwalk  and the final version of her  cape  was heavier than anticipated so it was tied tighter as was so heavy and she hadn’t rehearsed taking it off At the point of falling she knew she had a decision –  be strangled or fall . She knows how to fall off horses so she chose to fall Madonna also revealed that she actually fell on her  head  – not her arse – and was up until 3am being checked for concussions She was...
