June 12, 2012 // Lady Gaga Fires Back at Madonna Over 'Born This Way' Mashup (Video)

The queen of pop blended the 2011 hit with her “Express Yourself” during a recent concert, in which she chanted, “she’s not me.” Lady Gaga  has been a fierce opponent of bullying these past few years, but don’t expect her to take an attack lying down. Without naming names, the pop star appeared to lash out at  Madonna  during a recent performance in New Zealand. In the middle of her empowering anthem “Hair,” Gaga took a break to say, “It sometimes makes people feel better about themselves to put other people down or make fun of them or maybe make a mockery of their work, and that doesn’t make me feel good at all. That just makes me feel like I’m not being a good human being.” While kicking off her   MDNA   tour in Tel Aviv earlier this month, Madge made headlines for performing a mashup of Gaga’s “Born This Way” – which she once referred to as “reductive” – and her 1989 hit “Express Yourself.” She bookended the performance with the chant: “She’s no...

June 12, 2009 // Malawians welcome the court's decision to allow Madonna to adopt Chifundo "Mercy" James.

Madonna has succeeded in her bid to adopt a second African child after Malawi's Supreme Court told a provincial judge that she had listened too much to media reports and overturned her earlier decision. The 50-year-old single mother from New York, as Madonna was identified on a notice outside the court, completed her three-year pursuit of Mercy James Chifundo as a panel of judges paid tribute to her compassion for Malawian orphans. "We find the judge in the lower court to have dwelled so much on media reports on the issue of residence and to us this was not evidence enough to deny Madonna a chance to adopt Mercy James," said Chief Justice Lovemore Munlo, reading an hour-long judgment in Malawi's second city of Blantyre. "We therefore grant Madonna the adoption order." The singer, who chose not to attend the hearing, was told the news in New York by her lawyer Alan Chinula, who said she was "very excited". He stressed that the matter was now...

“Papa Don’t Preach,” featured on her third studio album, “True Blue.” Madonna – “Papa Don’t Preach” Sire / Warner Brothers Records The song is symbolic due to its lyrics regarding young rebelliousness, referencing teenage pregnancy and abortion. The song itself was both a critical and commercial success for Madonna. It received positive reviews, and became Madonna’s fourth number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100. Like many of Madonna’s music, the song also sparked a bit of controversy. Conservative groups argued that Madonna was encouraging teenage pregnancy, as well as young rebelliousness; while groups against abortion labeled the song “pro-life.” The song also sparked a conflict with the Vatican, in which Madonna dedicated the song to Pope John Paul II, and in return, the Vatican urged Italian fans to boycott her “Who’s That Girl World Tour.” Madonna in the video for “Papa Don’t Preach” Sire / Warner Brothers Records Music video for “Papa Don’t Preach”: ...
