Us Weekly: In the spirit of rebel hearts, what was your ultimate “rebel” moment? Madonna: The ultimate moment where I most felt like a rebel was in St. Petersburg, Russia [in 2012 during the MDNA Tour] when I was told they were going to arrest anyone who was openly or obviously gay and they came to my shows and I spoke out against the government. Eighty-seven people were arrested and I was fined like $1 million. They dropped the lawsuit, though. When I stood up for Pussy Riot was around the same time, but there have been a lot of those moments. I also think about when I was in Toronto and they said if I simulated masturbation during one of my shows [during the Blonde Ambition Tour in 1990] they would have me arrested and I was like, ‘F–k you! I’m doing it anyway. So arrest me.’ They didn’t in the end. Lots of those. Then there’s the Vatican when they said they would have me…you know, whatever! It goes on and on…. Madonna will talk to Jo Whiley about her new album, family life and that fall at The Brit Awards! It is her first UK radio interview in a long time ahead of her tour in late summer. The interview will be aired next Tuesday at 8pm local time.

EDGE  witnessed the media mayhem that only the Material Girl can create firsthand last Monday night when Madonna sat down with select members of the gay press at the Midtown Manhattan offices of her record label, Interscope. Madonna sat down, face-to-face, with an intimate group of gay journalists to talk about her new album, her favorite collaborators, her favorite carburetors, and, well, just about anything and everything — except what she has planned for her next tour. EDGE:  I’d like to ask you about the process of the album — it is a great album, by the way — I know that you’ve generally stuck with one producer on the last few albums – Madonna:  Thank you. 1. My all-time favorite Madonna song is “Bitch I’m Madonna” — naturally. And my least favorite is “Material Girl.” I never want to hear it again! 2. My favorite city is Rome. I’s so beautiful. The light is soothing and calming to me, and the architecture is splendid and the food is incredible. I totally love it. 3. I can’t stand mushrooms. Or escargot. Yuck! It’s like snot. Expensive snot. 4. The person I idolize most is Paul Farmer. He’s a doctor and activist who rebuilt the health-care system in Haiti even before the 2010 earthquake. He’s done the same in Rwanda. 5. The last time I went grocery shopping was a year ago. 6. I miss absolutely nothing about growing up in Michigan. Nothing at all. 7. The person I most want to meet is President Obama. Universal Music Germany has confirmed to our friends at the official  Madonna-fanclub Spotlight  that they will be releasing  Ghosttown  as a  2-track CD single . They don’t have a release date for the second single from  Rebel Heart  set in stone yet, but plans are for a late April – early May release. As the  Tribers  know, two different versions of the  Living For Love  single were released  in Europe last month – with a 4-track CD mysteriously popping up in some UK stores and online – although listed under the same tracklisting of the 2-track single for the German market. There is no news yet about whether the  UK  is going to have its own  Ghosttown  CD single, too, or a digital-only one; in either case, the sticker on the Promo CD currently sent out from Polydor mentions a  March 20  release.
